# Flowtelic

Flowtelic is a zettelkasten inspired note-taking app helps you study, learn, think, write and publish with maximum efficiency and consistency.

# Getting Started

Flowtelic is a new note-taking app inspired by the Zettelkasten note-taking method and inbox-zero workflows. It is in early development.

If you wish to use Flowtelic, please read the instructions on [Where Notes Are Stored](/fundamentals/where-notes-are-stored) as this explains how to avoid losing your notes if anything happens to your computer.

### How do I get access to Flowtelic?

Flowtelic is in an open beta, but you will need to join a waitlist to be notified up the development updates. You can do this by going to <https://join.flowtelic.com>. You will get the links to use Flowtelic on your confirmation email, so you can start using it right away.

### How do I use Flowtelic?

The documents here are still being worked on, but to get a feel for how to use Flowtelic, please watch this video.

Feel free to follow my [YouTube channel](https://www.youtube.com/MartinAdamsVideos?sub_confirmation=1) where I go into detail the Zettelkasten method and other ways to be productive.

# Collections

Collections allow you to create different, isolated collections of notes within Flowtelic. They are great where you might want to separate between different workflows, such as a personal set of notes and a work set of notes.

You can create as many collections as you like.

# Notes

At the core of Flowtelic are your notes. These are your atomic ideas, study notes, projects—basically anything that you want to store in Flowtelic.

Notes are stored within a collection and can be linked together. Each note has a note type and a workflow state.

### Creating notes

You can create notes by selected the + button within the app. Here you can select the note type to create and you will be presented with a blank note.

### Creating notes from bi-directional links

If you create a bi-directional link to a non-existent note from another note, when you click that link you will be given the option to create it. The title of the note will be auto-filled from the link text.

### Note editing

The note editor is a markdown inspired exitor with rich formatting.

#### Headings

You can create a heading by starting a line with a `#` (followed by a space). This will create a Level 1 heading. You can add more hashes to increase the heading level (up to level 6). For example `######` will trigger a Level 6 heading.

#### Note links

You can link to other notes by pressing `[[` and start typing the title of the note you want to link to. You can select the note and it will complete the link. To navigate to the note you can click on it. If the note doesn’t yet exist, you can type the full title of the note and close the link with a final `]]`.

### Note properties panel

Select the kebab menu and this will open the note properties panel.

### Note type

You can change the note type from the note properties panel.

### Note workflow state

You can change the note properties menu.

### Delete the note

You can delete the note from the note properties menu.

{% hint style="info" %}
If the notes don't appear after importing, please try refreshing your browser
{% endhint %}

### Troubleshooting

#### I'm importing my notes but they don't appear

We've found issues for users who are importing their notes from a removable USB storage device. This is an operating system issue and not related to Flowtelic. If you are having this issue and are using a removable USB storage device, please try copying the files to your local computer first, and dragging the local copy into Flowtelic.

# Where Notes Are Stored

{% hint style="warning" %}
**WARNING**

If you are using the web version of Flowtelic then please make sure you backup your notes as they are not stored anywhere else. [Please see these instructions to backup your notes](/fundamentals/import-and-export) by exporting each collection at the end of every note-taking session.

Flowtelic will support cloud sync with Flowtelic Pro and a local file system storage with the desktop app. These are in development. Please see the [development roadmap](https://roadmap.flowtelic.com/) to follow the progress.
{% endhint %}

Your notes are stored in your browser's local storage inside an IndexedDB. This is a database technology that ships with all modern browsers.

As such, it means that you do not have an account and cannot share your notes across different browser profiles or computers.

If you do want to move your notes from one browser to another, you can [export your notes and import](/fundamentals/import-and-export) them to the new browser.
